Communities In Schools (CIS) Site Coordinators presented an overview of their program to the Braxton County Rotary Club on Wednesday. They highlighted the organizational goals and explained the three tiers of student support, as well as the many resources offered through supply closets, community outreach, and family engagement activities. Data management was discussed that helps track school and student progress and success. The Rotary Club has been a long-standing and valued partner, providing vital support to CIS initiatives that empower student and their families to succeed. The program will be highlighted in the CIS State Newsletter.

When to Keep Your Child Home from School:
🤒 Fever
Temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher
➡️ Keep home until fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication (like Tylenol or Motrin).
🤧 Cold or Flu-Like Symptoms
Persistent cough, sore throat, runny nose with thick mucus, or extreme fatigue.
➡️ If symptoms are mild, your child may attend. If they’re unable to focus, coughing excessively, or look unwell — keep them home.
🤢 Vomiting or Diarrhea
One or more episodes of vomiting or two or more episodes of diarrhea within 24 hours.
➡️ Keep home until no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours and the child can eat and drink normally.
🤕 Severe Headache, Earache, or Abdominal Pain
➡️ If pain is severe or persistent, or if your child appears uncomfortable or tired, keep them home and consider contacting your healthcare provider.

Braxton County held their County Literature Fair on Wednesday, October 15, bringing together 61 talented students from across the district to showcase their love of literature.
The following students were 1st place winners in their Divisions and Categories that met the requirements to represent Braxton County at the WV Reading Association District Level Literature Fair to be held at Glenville State University’s WACO Center later this month: Kathryn Nettles, Bryar Smith, Raith Kestner, Gage Coen, Christa Baldwin, Brennan Conner, Xavia Gump, Violet Thomas, Ava Swartz, Blaine Gross, and Gabriel Grounds, Bryce Gregory, Jhett Jackson, Jesse Jarvis, Elyka Loggins, Mayla Hoard, Elana Jackson, Kenadie Shaver, Sofia, Gum, Olivia Cyriacks, Mackenna Dever, Blaire Spaur, Tillie Nettles, Zanna Facemire, Max Bostic, Olivia Clyde, Lillian Gross, Wren Shaver, Landon Jarvis, Braelyn Nettles, Jasmine Adams, Allie Rich, and Laikyn Wilson.

The meeting will begin with a 30-minute session focused on Special Education updates and supports, followed by a discussion on attendance data, school improvement initiatives, and academic standards. All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend. The PAC provides an opportunity for families to stay informed and partner with the district to help shape the educational experiences for all students.

Communities In Schools hosted their annual Braxton County Community Connection event on Friday, September 19, at BCHS, drawing the largest crowd in the event’s history. With record-breaking participation from community organizations, families, and schools, the evening was filled with excitement and celebration! Families enjoyed the interactive demonstrations, numerous giveaways, and a special presentation by the BCHS band! Following the event, students who scored mastery or above on their 2024-25 GSA, were recognized prior to the Eagles football game. Earlier, BCHS fall sports athletes presented those students merchandise generously sponsored by People’s Bank. Braxton County Schools has shown significant academic progress, moving from 41st place to 30th place in state rankings! “It was wonderful to see so many organizations and schools come together to connect families with local resources,” said Susan Schiefer, CIS Liaison. “The success of this event shows the strength of our community’s support for students." Communities In Schools extends a thank-you to everyone that contributed to the success of the event.

Students that live downriver to Joe's Fork Rd. parents should meet Bus 39A at the end of Joe’s Fork, morning and afternoon.
